Author. A former Seattle Policewoman, she was raised in a law-enforcement family and was regarded by many as one America's foremost true crime writers. Both her grandfather and her uncle were Michigan sheriffs, her cousin was a Prosecuting Attorney and another uncle was the Medical Examiner. After receiving a BA from the University of Washington in Creative Writing, she turned to crime writing in the late 1960s and broke through with "The Stranger Beside Me," a chilling account of her friendship with serial killer Ted Bundy. She went on to author nearly three dozen books, all which have been New York Times' bestsellers, including "Possession", "Lust Killer," "Want-Ad Killer", "The I-5 Killer'', "If You Really Love Me", "Too Late to Say Goodbye", "And Never Let Her Go", "Everything She Ever Wanted", "Heart Full of Lies," "In The Still of the Night", "Empty Promises", "Mortal Danger", "Dead by Sunset", "Bitter Harvest", "Every Breath You Take", "Green River Running Red", "But I Trusted You", "Smoke, Mirrors and Murder", "No Regrets", "Kiss Me Kill Me", "Last Dance Last Chance", "A Rage to Kill", "In the Name of Love", "The End of the Dream," "A Fever in the Heart," "Worth More Dead", and "A Rose For Her Grave". Eight of her books have become made-for-television movies, including "Small Sacrifices," which was about Oregon child murderer Diane Downs and starring Farrah Fawcett as Downs. Rule, who has received the Peabody Award, two Anthony Awards and has been nominated three times for Edgar Awards from the Mystery Writers of America, died in hospice care several days after suffering a heart attack.
