Served in the ME 1st Regiment in the 1860s. He mustered October 19, 1861, discharged because of disability at Washington February 14, 1863. In 1861 he was listed as a private in Company A of the 1st Regiment cavalry. After January 1, 1863 he was still a private but in Company B mustering in on September 28, 1864. He served in General Philip Sheridan's cavalry.
