Henry W. Dasso, 78, a 77 year resident of Rock Island, died at 11:05 o'clock last evening, 30 Jan 1949, in Mercy Hospital, Davenport, following an illness of a year. He was admitted to the hospital three days ago.

Mr. Dasso, who resided at 605 Twentieth Avenue, Rock Island, joined the volunteer Rock Island fire department in 1891. Member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 5 Sep 1895 - 3 Mar 1915. He was one of the first paid members of the force. He later was employed at Rock Island arsenal until his retirement in 1934.

He was born Aug. 16, 1870, in Mecklinberg, Germany, a son of Henry and Frederica Gest Dasso. He came to this country and directly to Rock Island at the age of 1 year. He was reared and educated in Rock Island. He married Tillie Kelemen (born in Iowa) in Rock Island, March 25, 1891. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1941. They had the following children: Hannah, Lena, Rosa, Fred and Henry L. He had the following siblings: Charles, born ca 1859 in Germany, Lena, born ca 1867 in Germany, Johannah, born ca 1873 in Illinois and Amelia, born ca 1875 in Illinois. He was of Lutheran faith.

Surviving are the widow; three daughters, Mrs. William Berg of Rock Island, Mrs. Oscar (Hanna) Newberg of Moline, and Jess Lewis of Chester, Pa.; two sons, Henry L. of Rock Island, and Fred C. of Elmhurst, Ill.; a brother, Charles Dasso of Rock Island, 25 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Wheelan funeral home. The Rev. Fred J. Rolf of the Church of Peace will ofiiciate. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery. Friends may visit the funeral home after 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, 1 Feb 1949.
