Dale was born July 17, 1928 in Cambridge, Ill., the youngest son of Harry and Mabel Anderson Carlson. He married Neta Darlyne Safe on January 30, 1949 at the First Congregational Church, Moline.
Dale served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and had the privilege to go on the Quad Cities Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 1 Mar 1955 - 17 Jul 1978 and retired as Fire Marshal in 1978. He continued to serve the City of Rock Island as electrical inspector for an additional 10 years. He was active in the Greater Rock Island Noon Lions Club, the Masons and the Association of Retired Firefighters. Dale attended several of the USS Neches Navy ship reunions, hosting one in the Quad Cities in 2008. Dale and Neta loved their cruises. They have taken over 60 cruises during their 63 years of marriage, including favorites through the Panama Canal, to Europe and down the Amazon River.
Dale was a founding member and continued to be a regular at the Tuesday morning "unofficial" retired firefighters' coffee at Hy-Vee. He enjoyed gardening and always had a household project going. He was a great story teller and his stories will be greatly missed.
