James R. Behrens, 74, of Rock Island, died on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at the Hope Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, East Moline, surrounded by his family.

There will be no services or visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

James was born on Jan. 23, 1938, in Rock Island, a son of Emil and Coletta Schaecher Behrens. He married Karen Larson in 1962; she preceded him in death in 1972. Later, Jim married Jamie Shaw in 1977; she preceded him in death in 2008.

Jim worked as a fireman for the Rock Island Fire Department for more than 20 years and was a member of the Rock Island Fire Department from 1 Nov 1965-3 Jan 1989. He also worked part time as a concrete finisher. He enjoyed fishing, watching movies, pheasant hunting and spending time with his family.

Survivors include, his sons, David J. (Joy) Behrens Sr., Geneseo, Brett D. Behrens, Rock Island; grandchildren, Alissa Behrens and David J. Behrens Jr.; a great-grandchild, Keldon Behrens; and a sister, Jean Haskins, Milan.

Jim also was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Arlene Exline.
