Born July 26, 1916, to Edward and Elsie (Bauman) Simon, Helen grew up in the Mecosta-Remus area. After working in Arizona, she returned home and married her first love, Mark Vincent Bott, in April of 1947, and became a homemaker of their Remus farm.
A devout Catholic all her life, Helen was very active in St. Michael's parish, where she cooked meals for the school children and belonged to many women's groups.
After Mark's passing, she moved to Petoskey where she could be closer to her son and family.
Helen so loved her family and quilting that they both enjoyed her love, patience and kindness needed to endure for years. Those who knew Helen had all been touched with her smile, kind words and zest for life. We will miss her presence, the joy she brought and the love she exuberantly left us.
Helen is survived by her son, John Bott Sr. and his wife, Diane, of Petoskey; her grandsons, John Bott Jr. and his wife, Rachelle, of Potterville, Blayne Bott of Ypsilanti, and Barry Bott of Petoskey; two great-granddaughters, Daryan Michelle and Ayana Marie Bott, of Potterville; her brother, Frank Simon and his wife, Helen, of Remus; her sisters, Emma (Simon) Torberson of Bay City and Mary (Simon) Golupski and her husband, Paul, of Lansing. Preceding her in death was her husband of 45 years, Mark; her parents; brothers, Jack and Arnold Simon; and sisters, Bernice Wonch, Donna Helms and Teresa Weber.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus.
Arrangements were handled by Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey.
