Don Cole was born Feb. 19, 1899, in Newark, the son of Albert and Mary Hallahan Cole. For more than 70 years, he operated Don's Cycle Shop, first in Newark and then, relocating in 1946, to Port Gibson. He was an authority on the repair of Indian motorcycles. Don had worked for many years for Reed Manufacturing, then as the manager of the maintenance and repair shop at Hallagan Manufacturing for 23 years, retiring in 1969 at the age of 70. Don was a life member of the Port Gibson Fire Department. In 1934 he was a founding member of the Wayne County Motorcycle Club and was a charter member of the American Motorcyclist Association. He was also a member of the North American 40+ Touring Riders, Inc.
He is survived by three daughters, a son, 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, a sister, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Bernice, in 1992; two sons, Robert in 1985 and William in 1995; and a daughter, Eleanor in 1997.
