Born in Watertown, MA on June 4, 1908, she was the first of 12 children of Joseph and Letizia Barbato. After a few years in Watertown, the family moved to Everett, MA where Rose attended Everett Public Schools.
She helped manage her father's business, "Barbato and Sons Excavation" for many years. Later she was employed in the financial office at the exclusive Houghton-Dutton Department Store on Tremont Street, Boston. It was during that time that she met her future husband, Joseph C. Burrone, owner of the Sheraton Barber Shops, famously known as "Mr. B" of Boston, hairstylist to men.
They were married in 1929 and Rose then turned her attention to homemaking and rearing their four daughters. The family moved to Belmont in 1950, yet she also found time to help with her husband's company and was instrumental in developing and overseeing the business for more than 50 years. Joe served as President of the Master Barbers' Association of America, and both Burrones were active in the association. They also devoted themselves to the philanthropic endeavors of the Italian-American Charitable Society and the Sons of Italy. Joe passed away in 1996 after 67 years of marriage and after the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1979.
She was predeceased by her brother Joseph Barbato, Jr. and her sisters Mary O'Brien, Florence Ciampa, Melina "Millie" Congelio, Lillian Melvin, Elvira "Vera" Bonasoro and Helen (Fiore) DePari.
Rose is an honorary member of the Maria Montessori Lodge-#1744, past member of St. Joseph Parish Ladies' Sodality, the Belmont Women's Club and the Oakley Country Club.
