Reada was the youngest of four children. On May 7, 1921, she was baptized at the parsonage of Saint John's Church in Freeland by Rev. Albert Orlando Bartholomew. She married Edward Carter, Jr., in about 1942, and the couple raised three sons: Thomas, Edward, and William. She was an avid bingo player, and a life member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5010; Veterans of Foreign Wars Purple; and the American Legion Post 473.
