Dorothy was the youngest of three children born to Catherine Drake and Frederick Thompson. She graduated from Nanticoke High School in Nanticoke, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in 1946. She was employed by People's Bank in Nanticoke as a teller until she retired in 1987. She never married.
