"Man Who Was Model Citizen Finishes Life's Work

Known as the model farmer of Clark County, Indiana, a licensed minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church and member of one of the earliest pioneer families in Southern Indiana, Peter Henry Bottorff died yesterday morning at 4 o'clock at his home, "Level View Farm," Utica township, ten miles east of Jeffersonville, following an illness that began early in the week. He had been infirm from age for some time. He took a great interest in farm work, although not physically able to perform manual labor. He was an active member of Farmer's Institute No. 2, of Utica township, and the December meeting was to have been held at his home. On that occasion he would have read a paper on "Memories of Early Days." He was a Democrat in his political belief.

Mr. Bottorff was a member of Union Methodist Episcopal Church and frequently, before he became too infirm to do so, preache at places in Southern Indiana. He was born October 19, 1827, near where he died. He was a son of Peter Bottorff and Sarah Fry Bottorff. As a young man he became interested in farming and before he was of age had saved means enough to acquire land of his own when he became 21. For several years he had been the owner of 130 acres of the best land in Southern Indiana. The improvements and equipment being kept in the best of condition.

His parents were descendants of pioneer families who located in Utica township when the country was a wilderness. Mr. Bottorff married three times. Besides his wife there survives one son, William P Bottorff, a Utica township farmer. The funeral will be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock from Union Church, and interment will be in the cemetery nearby."
