A teen who will never get to graduate high school, still received farewell yearbook messages thanks to her family and friends.

According to Mashable, Laura Hillier, 18, died on Jan. 20 after battling myeloid leukemia for years in Burlington, Canada.

Hillier died months short of her high school graduation.

Graduation-- it's a time enriched by student traditions that stay with alumni forever. Getting her last yearbook signed is one of those nostalgic traditions that escaped Hillier on Jan. 20.

So Hillier's friends and family came together to give her a memorial that would fulfill the senior year ritual.

They covered Hillier's coffin with the colorful, handwritten, tightly spaced, farewell messages that would fill the back pages of a yearbook for years to come.

A photo of the coffin was shared on Imgur, an online photo sharing platform, by a classmate. The caption read, "A girl from my high school died this year, this was what her parents did for her coffin, since she never got a senior yearbook."

The poster went on to say, "I couldn't possibly share this without including the message that a big part of why she died was due to long wait times for transplant patients.

HILLIER, Laura Carol

Laura slipped away in the loving arms of her family at Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 after a valiant battle with leukemia. Taken too soon at the age of 18.

Beloved daughter of Gregory and Frances Hillier. Adored sister of Heather. Cherished granddaughter of Frank and Edna Pitt and the late Charles and Monica Hillier. Treasured niece of Sandy, Penny, Cathy and Lloyd. Dear cousin of Kyle, Devon, Margy, Natalie, Sean and Jenny.

Laura was a remarkable woman whose life, although short, impacted the lives of many. Her passion, intellect, voice, creativity, talent, kindness, and love of life inspired friends, family and acquaintances.

Her courageous battle against leukemia and her crusade to bring attention to the need for stem cell transplant resources have inspired health care providers, bureaucrats and complete strangers. Laura will be missed by many. Special thanks to the extraordinary and compassionate staff at Juravinski Hospital and for the never-ending love and support from friends and family too numerous to mention.

Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line, BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday the 28th from 7-9 pm, and Friday the 29th from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service to celebrate Laura will be held at Wellington Square United Church, 2121 Caroline Street, Burlington on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11 am with reception to follow.
