~In Memory Of River Steinhoff~
A 30-year-old Windsor woman has been charged with the murder of her toddler son and the attempted murder of a police officer who arrested her.
Police were contacted around 12:30 a.m. about a woman seen walking down the middle of Huron Church Road with a child in her arms.
Officers arrived to see the woman standing on the road's median just north of the E.C. Row Expressway holding a "motionless" child.
When the officers approached her, she threw the child to the ground and took off running.
One officer went to the child, while the other chased the woman.
The child appeared to have wounds on his body and required immediate medical attention.
When the pursuing officer caught up with the woman, she turned and started flailing with a knife in her hands.
The officer suffered stab wounds to his arm and back.
The boy was rushed to Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital, but died shortly after 2 a.m. His body was taken to London for an autopsy.
The officer was released from hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Steinhoff remains in police custody.
River would have turned three in August.
