Sean Christian Reader of Valencia California peacefully went to heaven on Monday, August 14, 2006, after a very lengthy and courageous battle with leukemia at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

Sean's determination and dedication was seen throughout his life. We saw it in the way he played chess, in the way he focused on his work at Meadows Elementary School and in the way he fought this relentless illness. The doctors and nurses openly mourned the loss of the boy they called "a champion and a warrior."

The bond he had with his family was one of love and strength. He adored, admired, and loved his mother Maria and his father Chan. During the last three years of his life, Sean opened his heart and trust to the newest members of the family, his stepfather, TJ, and his stepsister Angela.

Sean's extended family loved him very much. Sean's Grandmas each received affectionate handholding during their final visits with him. Days with Grandpa were spent either outdoors hiking or inside playing chess. His uncles, Frank, DuWayne, Chris, and Al, and his aunts, Angela and Lori, were always close to his heart. His grandfather, Howard Reader, preceded him in death.

Sean enjoyed hanging out with his friends, whether they played chess, basketball, or tossed the football. Sean had many passions in sports: Duke basketball, Georgia football, Brett Favre and The Green Bay Packers, March Madness, and especially The Dodgers. He excelled in chess, capturing the title of 2005 Western States 6th Grade Champion. Only days after being diagnosed with leukemia Sean lead the Meadows Elementary team to 2nd place at the Nationals in Nashville Tennessee.
