1st Lt.(later Captain) Robert L. Daune, USMC, 96th Co (H), 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment.
Awarded the Purple Heart Medal for actions against the enemy. WIA while serving as Executive Office of the 96th Co (H) during the 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment's attack on enemy held positions near the Soissons-Château-Thierry Highway. He received his wound during action in the sugar beet fields east of the French town of Vierzy, France during the Aisne-Marne Offensive (Soissons) Offensive, on the morning of Friday, July 19th, 1918. Duane participated in the Battle of the Aisne (Belleau Wood) a battle of legendary status in Marine Corps battle history. He was promoted to Captain at the end of the war.
Duane earned the following decorations for his service in the Marine Corps:
- Purple Heart Medal
- WWI Victory Medal with two campaign bars
- French Fourragere Arm cord (awarded to his regiment by the award)
