Cardinal. He was elected bishop of Toul in 1692 and was transferred to the see of Meaux in 1702. He had been abbot of Saint-Germain-des-Près for a year when Pope Clement XI named him cardinal in 1715. He participated in the conclaves in 1724 and 1730 that elected Benedict XIII and Clement XII.
