David Asher was born in the County of Burke, NC (which later became Washington County, TN) on 6-12-1759 and was most likely the son of Charles Asher, Sr., a Virginia-Scotsman, who was born ca. 1739 and killed by Indians on July 23, 1780, and the grandson of William Asher, born ca. 1720 in Virginia. .
David served in the Revolutionary War and was discharged at Tate's Mill, Burke Co, NC. He walked from the Watauga River, in what is now Hawkins County, TN, through the Blue Ridge country to New River with Jacob Alexander, fighting Indians. .
After the war, David moved to Granger Co, TN before Tennessee became a state. He then moved to Anderson Co, TN, Roane Co, TN, Washington Co, MO in 1836, and finally to Reynolds Co, MO, where he spent the remainder of his life and where he died after passing the centurion mark. He married a woman named Rachel, who was born in 1760 in Virginia, and is buried with her husband in the Asher Cemetery of Reynolds County, MO. She, too, was over 100 years of age at the time of her death.
