OREVILLE — Tammy Buckley has been described as kind-hearted, sweet, and very caring, but no one ever dreamed they would be speaking of her in the past tense.

A pharmacy technician at the Logan Walmart store, Buckley was the 22nd person hired by store manager Susan Aldridge in 2001 when the store first opened.

"She's been here since day one," stated Aldridge. "And she's been a great employee. Always friendly, always smiling, always positive."

"We're all family here," continued Aldridge. "We spend more time with our co-workers than we do with our own families. This is such a tragedy and we need time to grieve in our own way here in the store."

Buckley was murdered Saturday night by her husband, Kevin, after what appeared to be an argument that ensued between the couple earlier that evening.

According to Aldridge, Tammy had a love for animals and treated them as though they were her children.

"She just loved her animals," Aldridge stated. "She lived for them and was a volunteer for ARF!, an organization for adopting animals."

While Aldridge said everyone is still in shock over the loss of their co-worker and friend, she said they would get through the grieving process and move forward.

"It's going to take time, but we take care of each other," she added. "We will get through this."

"Tammy will be missed," stated Jacqueline Wilson in a Facebook post. "She had such a kind heart."

Aldridge believes most of Tammy's family lives in Kentucky, with the exception of her sister who lived next door to her on state Route 93 North.

However, in speaking with a representative of Humphrey Funeral Home, of Shawnee, she is survived by a brother who lives in the Crooksville area and another sister who resides in Kentucky.

"She was a sweet girl," Aldridge said. "It's just so sad this happened."

According to Hocking County Sheriff Chief Deputy Dave Valkinburg, sheriff deputies have been called to the home on three occasions since 2005 for domestic disputes.

Hocking County Coroner Dave Cummin said autopsies were to be performed on the Buckley's at the Franklin County coroner's office Monday.

"It's standard procedure," stated Cummin.

Funeral arrangements are pending at this time, according to a spokesperson from Humphrey's.

Tammy worked tirelessly to care for homeless animals. At the time of her death she had twenty dogs that she had rescued. Her dogs were her babies and were all sterilized, vaccinated, well fed, well housed, and - loved.

Yesterday when I got out my canna rhizomes to plant, I realized they were the ones Tammy donated to the flea market and I bought for a quarter each. She had explained to me how easy they were to grow and over winter inside - and she was right.

She loved NASCAR and the Earnhardts; she always bought their collectibles when they were donated to our fundraisers.

Tammy was well known for her infectious laugh and kind ways.

Tammy was brutally murdered by her husband of nineteen years, who then shot himself.
