Ben was born June 19, 1919 to Fred and Anna (Schuettpelz) Mehlberg in the Town of Grant, Shawano County. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the Town of Grant, Caroline, WI. He lived with his parents and helped with their farm chores and also drove milk truck for F. R. Buss of Caroline until 1947 when he moved to Thorp. He married Rose Vetterkind on August 28, 1948 in Withee, WI. Ben worked at various livestock dealers there until 2 years ago when ill health forced him to retire.
Survivors include a daughter: Marlene, Withee; three sisters: Iva Blum, Wittenberg, Rose (Harold) Draeger, Birnamwood, and Helen Hill, Milwaukee, two brothers: Arnold (Delores) Mehlberg, Clintonville, and Elroy (Elaine) Mehlberg rural Marion: and two sister's-in-law, Irene Mehlberg, rural Marion, and Ruth Mehlberg, Clintonville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by is wife, one infant daughter, Betty; three brothers: Fred, Oscar, and John Mehlberg; two sisters: Flossie and Gertrude Mehlberg
Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Withee on Friday, May 14, where Rev. Tom Myrhe officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Withee.
