Shirley was born July 26, 1927, to Ernest and Florence (Drury) Noyes in North Rose, New York. She moved to Cayuga, New York in 1930 at the age of 3. This was her home until 1982.
She married Herman Frederick Tavener on February 21, 1948. They had one child, Paul. They loved to square-dance and go bowling.
Most of Shirley’s jobs involved retail. She was employed at Hislop Department Store for several years and later worked at Crosman’s Jewelry Store for several more years. Shirley was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Cayuga and later transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church of Lady Lake, Florida after they moved to Florida in 1982. She also sang in a barbershop quartet for about 5 years.
Her husband Herm, passed away suddenly in 1989, and Shirley continued to live in Florida until November of 2010. With her health declining, she moved to Oklahoma to be near her son, Paul, and family.
