MOUNTAIN HOME - Bill D. Blevins, 68, of Mountain Home died April 23, 2008, at Mountain Home. He was born March 7, 1940, in Oxford to Leonard and Audean Helm Blevins.

He moved to Mountain Home in 1964. He was a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College with a degree in biology. He had a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Alabama and a master's degree in biology from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro and an education specialist degree from the University of Iowa.

He began his teaching career in 1964 at Mountain Home High School. He was former Mountain Home junior high school principal, Cotter School District superintendent, a former Mountain Home City Council member and a Corps of Engineers summer Park Ranger for 19 years.

He formerly owned and operated Ozark Mills and Buggy Wheel. He was an accomplished writer with 24 published books. His books are archived in the Special Collection at the University of Arkansas and with the Arkansas History Commission.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie and a son, Mark.

Survivors include three daughters, Tammie Parker and husband, Tim, of Flippin, Melinda Womack and husband, state Sen. Shawn Womack, of Mountain Home and Tina Harris and husband, state Rep. Eric Harris, of Springdale; seven grandchildren; a brother, Darrell Blevins of Grain Valley, Mo.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Kirby & Family Funeral Home in Mountain Home. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oxford Cemetery with Mike Haney officiating.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Womack, Tim Parker, Eric Harris, Brandon Whitehead, Blake Whitehead, Abe Vogel, Jordan Womack and Jackson Harris.

Memorials may be made to Baxter County Library.
