He was born in San Antonio. He was a retired major of the U.S. Army with more than 20 years of active duty. He was a Green Beret in the 173rd Airborne Brigade 1970-1971. He earned a Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, a Meritorious Service Medal, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, an Army Commendation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, a Meritorious Unit Commendation from the Navy, a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Star, a Humanitarian Service Medal, and many others as well as Special Forces Tab, Honorary Republic of Vietnam Jump Wings, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and a Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Honor Medal First Class.
He married Cathy Pryor on March 26, 1977, in San Antonio. He was a Certified Texas Master Naturalist and was an assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 287 for about 14 years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and served as president for one year. He was active in the Bell County Geological Societies. He is survived by his wife, one son, Andy, and a daughter, Amy.
