WILLIAM MITCHELL BLAYDES (Tuesday, January 21, 1958 to Friday, June 4, 2004). William Mitchell “Bill” Blaydes, originally of Bluefield, WV died in Pensacola, Florida after a lengthy illness. He was 46. Born in New York City, he was the son of Dr. J. Elliott Blaydes (1927 – 2015) of Bluefield and Elizabeth P. Blaydes of Bluefield and Jerusalem, Israel. As a youth he attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, Bluefield, WV.

He attended Bluefield public schools then The McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN. Thereafter he atteneded Mercer University and West Virginia University. He was an avid sportsman and he excelled in football, tennis, wrestling and basketball.

He founded the Blaydes Tree Service in Bluefield, WV and later moved with his skills to Florida. From approximately 1984 to 2004 he was a resident of Pensacola, FL where he was involved in the landscape design and tree business. He was employed by Nehemiah House, a foster home for adolescent boys and also served as a bible teacher and counselor in the inner city Christian ministry at the House of liberty. He provided Christian mentoring and guidance to many individuals who were disadvantaged or in need. He attended Liberty Bible School and was an active member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Pensacola and a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bluefield, WV.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Elliott Blaydes IV, paternal grandparents Dr. and Mrs. (Mable H.) J.E. Blaydes Sr. of Bluefield, WV and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. William G. Pfohl of Strafford, PA.

At the time of his death 2004, he was survived by his brother, Dr. Stephen H. Blaydes and his wife Kathleen of Bluefield, his sister Elizabeth Blaydes Lewis and husband Andrew Lewis of Gainesville, GA and his sister Jaime B. Blaydes of Burlington, N.C. As of 2004, he was uncle to four nieces Jennifer, Susanna, Rebecca and Abigail Lewis and his nephew Charles Blaydes.
