Actor. Born James Aubrey Tregidgo, the son of a military officer, he received his education at private English schools in Jamaica, Germany and Singapore. Aubrey's first professional acting role was in the short-lived Broadway play "Isle of Children" (1962), directed by Jules Dassin. He was then cast in the part of Ralph in the motion picture adaptation of William Golding's classic novel "Lord of the Flies" (1963), for which over 3,000 boys had auditioned. Still a young man, Aubrey furthered his acting skills at the Drama Centre in London; he established himself a familiar presence during the 1970s, on British television as a cast member in the series "Bouquet of Barbed Wire" (1976), its sequel "Another Bouquet" (1977), and guest parts in "Lovejoy" and "Inspector Morse", among others. Throughout his career, he worked with several theater companies including the Royal Shakespeare Company, and had a memorable performance on the London Stage in the production "The Glass Menagerie" in 1977. Among his other film credits include "Galileo" (1975), "Home Before Midnight" (1979), "Forever Young" (1983), "The Hunger" (1983) and "The American Way" (1986). He died from cancer.
