Sherry Yvette Athy, 52, of Charlottesville, Virginia, departed this life on Monday, March 14, 2011, at her residence.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 13, 1958, the daughter of Yvonne and the late John Athy Sr. of Louisa, Virginia.

She was a graduate Louisa High School and her career was spent as a Manufacturing Operator at G.E. Fanuc for 15 years. Her passion was traveling on cruises to exotic places. She was outgoing and friendly to a fault and could always find the best in everyone she met. Her family and friends were the nearest and dearest to her heart and she knew how to bring out the best in each of them.

In addition to her mother her survivors include two brothers, John Athy Jr. and his friend, Deborah, and Carl Athy of Louisa; one sister, Cynthia Athy of Louisa; four nieces and nephews, Jonathan Brown Athy, Janon Brown Athy, Tiffany Athy and Maurice Athy; three friends, Beatrice Turner, Delores Jackson, and Christine Frye; and a very special friend, John Nelson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Covenant Church, 1025 East Rio Road with the Reverend James Louderback officiating. Interment followed at Holly Memorial Gardens on Route 29 North.
