Film Producer and Director. Winchel Koch was an American film producer and director in the Hollywood movie industry. Born Howard Winchel Koch, his professional name was “Winchel Koch.” Starting with Universal Studio then moving to 20th Century Fox, his first assistant director movie was “The Key of the Kingdom” in 1944. He was executive producer in "Fort Yuma" in 1955, "The Manchurian Candidate" in 1962, and "The Odd Couple" in 1968. Also he directed films such as "Jungle heat" in 1957 and "Andy Hardy Comes Home" in 1958. He was the director on the 1950's TV series such as “Maverick,” "Cheyenne" and "The Untouchables" and was the head of Paramount Pictures from 1964 to 1966. Given for "outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes,” he was a recipient of the coveted Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 1990 Oscars. He died from Alzheimer's Disease, was cremated in Los Angeles, and his ashes was scattered in Turkey Crossing over Utah. He is often confused with screenwriter Howard Koch and his son, a producer, Howard Winchel “Hawk” Koch, Jr.
