Preston Monroe Bannister Jr., 84, of Pelham Drive, Waynesboro, Virginia, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, at his residence.
He was born June 19, 1925, in New Orleans, Louisiana, son of the late Preston Monroe Bannister and Mildred Amelia Timlin Bannister.
He served his country with the United States Coast Guard during World War II and Korea.
During his career with the General Services Administration in Washington, D.C., Mr. Bannister was instrumental in the development of the Federal Acquisitions Regulations.
He was an avid golfer during his retirement and a devoted student of the Holy Bible.
He was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Maryland, Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Georgia, and First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro, Virginia. He was a devoted husband and father.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Joyce N. Bannister; two daughters, Laura L. Bannister of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Nancy C. Bannister of Burke, Virginia; two brothers, Bert Bannister and his wife, Olga, of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Ronald Bannister of Jacksonville, Florida; and his faithful dog, Tucker.
A memorial service was conducted Tuesday April 27, 2010, at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Glen A. Holman.
Interment took place at a later date.
