The Rev. Dr. Lewis Morse Baldwin II of Hampton passed away on November 29, 2004.

Dr. Baldwin was Emeritus Professor of English at Onondaga Community College, Syracuse, N.Y., where he earned the State University of New York Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1990, and the University of Texas (Austin) National Excellence in Teaching Medal in 1991. Subsequently, he elected early retirement to prepare for the ministry and was ordained a Priest in the Anglican Church of America in 1993, after which he and his family moved to Virginia. While serving as curate to St. James' Parish, Mathews, he was called to the Rectorship of St. Timothy's in Newport News. He held the Ph.D. and Master of Arts degrees from Syracuse University, and the B.A. cum laude from S.U.N.Y. College at Geneseo. Dr. Baldwin also served as Town Justice for the Town of Onondaga, N.Y., from 1979-1983. A U.S. Army veteran, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of Thomas Nelson Chapter, S.A.R., Hiram Lodge #144, F&AM, and earned the 32nd Degree as a member of the Valley of Syracuse, A.A.S.R. An avid life long motorcyclist, he was a member of the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Harley Owners Group.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Denman Baldwin, their daughter, Elizabeth of Hampton, two sons, L. Michael Baldwin III of North Carolina and Dr. Kevin C. Baldwin of Atlanta, and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted Saturday, December 4, at the Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel.
