Aviation Machinist Mate Chief Bill Claflin, US Navy

ADC Claflin died of a heart attack the night before going to sea on trials for a new navy weapon - the penguin missile.

He was a member of the Wolfpack of HSL-45, an SH-60B LAMPS helicopter squadron based at NAS North Island, San Diego. He was the detachment Leading Chief.

Prior to being promoted to Chief Petty Officer he was selected as the Sailor of the Year for the Scorpions of HSL-41.

He was a veteran of the first Gulf War. He was survived by his wife, children, parents, and his shipmates of the US Navy.

ADC Clafflin was highly respected by officers and enlisted alike. He is sorely missed.
