Newspaper Publisher. Charles Tisdale was born in Alabama,fought for civil rights and was owner and publisher of the Jackson Advocate,Mississippi's oldest black-owned newspaper.His newspaper office was firebombed at least twice. The last time was in 1998 and caused $100.ooo in damage. His paper has received several honors,the National Black Chamber of Commerce Newspaper of the Year,the Nation of Islam Freedom Fighter Award and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Journalism Award.Mr.Tisdale was an outspoken critic of elected officials,both black and white.He was concerned about the welfare of all citizens,not just blacks.He was a champion for Human Rights,and cared deeply about the struggles of African-Americans fighting for justice.
