Rudolph H. Borgerding was born in Oldenburg, Germany, October 14, 1825, and died at New Albany at 12 M. Wednesday, October 7, 1903, lacking but seven days of being seventy-eight years old. Mr. Borgerding came to New Albany in 1850 and up to the time of his retiresy from business several years ago, had followed the occupation of a shoemaker, in which business he was an expert workman, and in which he accumulated a handsome competence. He was always a most industrious and highly respected citizen. In 1855 Mr. Borgerding was married to Miss Elizabeth Weisbach, of this city, who preceded him to the grave about ten years ago. Of the children born to the marriage but one survives, Mr. George Borgerding, Cashier on the New Albany National Bank, and for several years a member and Treasurer of the New Albany School Board. Mr. Borgerding was making his home with his son, and during the summer received a fall which fractured a limb. He was recovering from this injury when arsenic poisoning intervened, which the most skilled physicians were unable to arrest. Rudolph H. Borgerding was a faithful member of the German Evangelical church, a man respected forhis sterling worth and honesty by all who knew him, and he has passed out of life at a ripe age, and leaves an example worthy of emulation. The arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made. - New Albany Daily Ledger October 7, 1903 p4 c4
