Former Anaconda resident William E. Bowden, 85, died Aug. 14 in Everett, Wash.
Bill was born in Butte and grew up in Walkerville. He graduated from Butte High School, joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and graduated from Butte Business College. Bill married Marion Bluff on June 30, 1941. He served in the Army in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was the manager's secretary in the general office at the Anaconda Smelter and was elected a city councilman and then elected to the city-county commission.

He moved to Ahwatukee, Ariz., in 1979. There his wife preceded him in death. In 1988, he moved to Everett, Wash., where he lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Robert Williams. Robert preceded him in death as did his parents, William and Gladys Bowden, and brother, Harrison.

Mr. B is survived by his daughter, Marion-Doloris; sister, Lola Morgan of Butte; nieces, Joan (Pete) Cassidy and Jean (Dee) Sullivan, also of Butte and their families.

At his request, no services will be held.
