Leon arrived in Vietnam 8 October 1968 and was assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. Leon was being med-evac for a non-hostile injury, when the CH-46A #154018 was shot down by hostile small arms and automatic weapons fire, 12 kilometers south southwest of the An Hoa Airfield. Leon as a result of burn injuries when the CH-46A crashed and burned.
Survived by his parents; Earl D and Gladys M Barickman and a brother; Ivan L Barickman, all of Box 116, Lewisville, MN.
