Mrs. Anna Hoogland, aged 46 years, of 2727 Byron Center Ave. SW, passed away Thursday morning.
Surviving are her husband, Rev. Jacob Hoogland; two daughters, Helen and Anna; two sons, John and Marvin; her mother, Mrs. Helen Verwolf; one sister, Mrs. John A. VanderArk of Hull, IA; two brothers, Meinte Schuurmans of Lansing, Mich., and Rev. William Verwolf of Milwaukee, Wis.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wyoming Park Christian Reformed Church. Relatives will meet at the Church at 1 p.m., Rev. P. Holwerda officiating. The Ladies Aid Society is also requested to meet previous to the services. Mrs. Hoogland will repose in the Assembly Room of the church where the family will receive friends Friday and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment in Graafschap Cemetery. Friends are requested to please omit flowers. Arrangements by Kuiper.

Family Note: Anna's father, Pieter Schuurmans, died when Anna was just 4 months old. Her mother, Helen VanderSchaaf Schuurmans, had a sister, Gertie Frankena, living in Manhattan, Montana, so they moved there where her mother met and married John Verwolf on March 2, 1905. Anna was then raised in the Verwolf home in Amsterdam, Montana where she was known as Anna Verwolf. She was a happy, carefree, yet very sincere and conscientious girl. When she was twenty, she went with her Uncle Charlie VanderSchaaf back to Paterson where she worked in a rubber factory. When an opening came in the staff in the Manhattan Christian School, she returned to teach the first three grades. Anna was persuaded by her future husband, Rev. Jacob Hoogland, to pursue further studies at Grundy Academy in Iowa where he was studying at the time, and graduated from the Academy three years later. She then accepted an appointment to teach at the Ireton, Iowa Christian School where she taught for two years. Rev. John and Anna were married on August 18, 1929 in Manhattan, MT and then moved to Grand Rapids, MI where Rev. John completed his education at Calvin Seminary. On September 14, 1930, Rev. John was ordained in the Christian Reformed Church in Decatur, MI, where they stayed for 5 ½ years. In February of 1936 they moved to Muskegon where they lived until November of 1945. In 1942, Anna had a stroke from which she never fully recovered and passed on to glory in 1946 leaving her beloved husband and four teenagers, Helen, Ann, John, and Marvin.
