Barney DeBoer was born August 6, 1886, at Balswaard, The Netherlands, to Mr. and Mrs. Siebolt DeBoer; and passed away on Sunday, December 17, 1967 at a Mitchell hospital. He had been in failing health for some time and underwent surgery from which he never totally recovered.

Emigrating to America at the age of nineteen, he made his home in Manhattan, Montana, where he met and married Jennie Verwolf. Eight children were born to them. In 1917 they moved to Corsica where he worked as a carpenter until early in the thirties when he entered the hatchery business in which he remained until 1962.

Surviving are his wife, Jennie, and seven children: Mrs. John Goemaat (Elizabeth) of Bellflower, California; Mrs. William Murray (Ann), Grand Rapids, Michigan; Sam of Manhattan, Montana; Mrs. John DeJong (Joanne) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; George of Chamberlain, South Dakota; Alvin of Winnemucca, Nevada; and Lyle of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 25 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Ed of Bellflower, California; John of Lexington, Kentucky; Peter of Lynden, Washington; and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Ligterberg of Manhattan, Montana, and Mrs. Onie Aardema, Zeeland, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, one sister, Mrs. Anne VanderLaan, and one brother, Klaas.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 20 at two o'clock in the Christian Reformed Church of Corsica with Rev. John Ebbers officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Lowell Goemaat, Albertus VanEssen, Gary VanEssen, Douglas and Victor DeBoer and Lyle DeBoer.

Members of the family able to attend the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Sam DeBoer, Mrs. John DeJong, Mr. and Mrs. George DeBoer and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle DeBoer. Grandchildren attending were Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Goemaat of Iowa, Albertus VanEssen, Gary VanEssen of Michigan, Douglas DeBoer, U.S. Army and Victor DeBoer, U.S. Navy.
