Elected Sheriff of Marion County Ohio, November, 1861, however he died less than a month after the election, a victim of the same typhoid fever that claimed his brother two weeks before. The loss to the community is well documented in the "Letters of Thomas Anderson" book, "Our new Sheriff is dead!" He is the only person in the history of Marion County Ohio to be elected to a county office and not sworn in, having died before the term began. Harvey was the son of Thomas Harvey of Franklin County Pennsylvania and Francis Barclay Harvey (Note the burial locations of Thomas Harvey is believed to be at the Metal Presbyterian graveyard in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Frances Barclay Harvey is believed buried in Crawford County, Ohio.) Married to Mary Fickle who bore his children: Minerva, Amanda, Eliza, William Clay, Franklin, Mary and Alice Bell. The citizens of Marion purchased a lot in the Summit Lawn section of the new cemetery in tribute to him.
