Sister Joanne Regina Arcouet, OP, of Dominican Convent, Sparkill, New York, died on August 23, 2011 in Siena Hall Infirmary, Sparkill, NY. Born in the Bronx, NY on December 6, 1933, Lorraine Helen Arcouet was the daughter of Alfred Arcouet and Florence Bogert. She entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill on September 7, 1952 and became known as Sister Joanne Regina, professing her first vows in 1954 and her final vows in 1959. Sister Joanne Regina earned a BS in Education from Fordham University, NY and a MS in Guidance from St. John's University, NY. During her professional life, Sister Joanne Regina was a teacher, guidance counselor and administrator. She served in the Archdiocese of New York and the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Center at St. Catherine of Siena School, NY, NY (1954-56); St. Mary Magdalene, Springfield Gardens, NY (1956-64); Aquinas High School, Bronx, NY (1964-65); St. Helena High School, Bronx, NY (1965-66); St. Edmund High School, Brooklyn, NY (1966-1979); and as assistant principal at Holy Family, Hicksville, NY (1979-2003). Upon her retirement she offered local community service at Holy Family parish until 2008 when she became a resident of Dominican Convent. We will remember Sr. Joanne Regina for her unwavering commitment to the ministry of Catholic education and for her generosity and kindness. She was always ready to lend a hand when help was needed. She will be deeply missed by her many friends by those with whom she lived. We thank her for her fifty-nine years of commitment as a Dominican Sister of Sparkill. May she rest in peace and joy in the arms of her loving God.
