The birth of Eugene John McSwiney at Johnstown, Dunmanway, Co. Cork, on 13 July 1890, son of Dr. Morgan McSwiney and Margaret McCarthy McSwiney, was registered by his father, Morgan McSwiney, a Medical Doctor, on 8 September 1890.
The location is about ten miles North of Dunmanway.

Recorded in the 1901 census, living with his parents at Johnstown, Carrickboy, Co. Cork.
Morgan McSwiney, aged 45, J.P., Dispensary Medical Officer.
Margaret McSwiney, aged 37,
Eugene John McSwiney, aged 10, Scholar.

In the 1911 census Margaret McSwiney was a 49 year old widow living with her brother Michael McCarthy, a 53 year old Dispensary Medical Officer, a widower, at Ardnageeha, Cullen, Cork. [Ardnageeha is approx. 5 miles north of Millstreet.]
Eugene John McSwiney was noted as a 20 year old University graduate.

Capt. McSwiney is recorded by CWGC as having been buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Millstreet, Co. Cork.

The cemetery was visited on 29th August 2010, and on 4 May 2014, but the grave could not be located. There was no McSwiney headstone to a grave there.

He was thought to be buried in the McSweeney plot in St. Patrick's, but recent information indicates that he was probably buried in a nearby McCarthy plot.
