GRAND ISLAND - Anthony J. Soluri, 89, of the Riverwood Heath Care Center, formerly of Ontario Avenue, Niagara Falls, died Wednesday (Nov. 18, 1998) at home of natural causes.
He was born Dec. 27, 1908, in Niagara Falls, the son of Joseph and Mary (Roselli) Soluri.
Mr. Soluri attended local schools.
He married Betty Allen of Niagara Falls on Aug. 27, 1936, in St. Mary of the Cataract Church.
Mr. Soluri worked as an insurance salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance for more than 30 years, retiring in 1972. He also worked part-time for Western Savings Bank in the insurance department.
He was an accomplished musician who played the drums. He played with the Shredded Wheat Band, the Carborundum Band and many local dance bands. He was very active at the former Century Club.
Mr. Soluri was a member of the Musicians Union Local 106 and the Holy Name Society at Mount Carmel Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronald Soluri of Grand Island; three daughters, Joyce M. Soluri of Niagara Falls, Mary Lou Ventry of Atlanta and Judith A. Capolupo of Grand Island; a sister, Mary Calandrelli of Niagara Falls; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Soluri was predeceased by a daughter, Eleanor F. Piro, and a sister, Ella Soluri.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 0 p.m. today at the Spallino-Amigone Funeral Home, 1300 Pine Ave. Services will begin at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2499 Independence Ave. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Building Fund; or to the Alzheimer's Association, Western New York Chapter, 1914 Colvin Blvd., Tonawanda, N.Y. 14150.
