Domenico Gallo was born in Capodrise, Italy on April 16, 1904, the third son of Lorenzo and Maria Giuseppa (Moretta) Gallo to be named Domenico, named after his mother's father Domenico Moretta. Both of his older brothers named Domenico Gallo died at age 1 and as a stillborn, respectively. He also was the brother of Maria Castellano, Francesca Penale, Rosa Gallo, Giulia Gallo, Enrico Gallo and Frank Lobrillo.
He and his mother left Italy in 1920, arriving in Boston, Massachusetts on March 20, 1920. Domenico and his mother lived with his sister Francesca Penale and her family in Niagara Falls, New York for a time. By 1925, he lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his brother Frank Lobrillo also lived. While there, he died of a heart attack, and he was later buried along with his mother in his sister Francesca Penale’s family plot in Lewiston, N.Y.
