"SLAIN Mr and Mrs Leslie Bowen 2000 Block North Pulaski street, recently received word confirming the death in action in Korea of their son, Corp Charles L Bowen. Twenty one years of age, he had been reported missing in action since last July 20."

An August 22 1950 clipping from the newspaper under Missing in Action, noted "Corporal Charles L Bowen, son of Mrs. Thelma M Bowen, of 2000 North Pulaski Street."

There is also another clipping from a newspaper, no name or date, in an article titled "Yanks' Bodies Coming Home". Bodies of 14 Maryland soldiers and one Marine who lost their lives in the Korean war are among 579 being returned to the U.S. aboard the Hoosier State Victory, the Department of Defense announced Saturday. The ship is expected to arrive at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation on Sunday. Next of kin concerned have been notified of the imminent arrival of the ship and the bodies will be sent with an escort to the point designated by each individual next of the kin. ...... Corporal Charles L Bowen, son of Leslie E Bowen, 2000 North Pulaski street.... The Department of Defense also announced on Saturday that the word "Korea" will be inscribed on grave markes and headstones of U.S. dead returned from Korea, or whose death is attributable to service in Korea and who are buried in national cemetaries."
