Peter had 4 siblings, Courtney (Martin), Frances (Sawyer) and Caleb (died young in NC). All of the children were born in Currituck County in NE North Carolina.
When new lands opened up for settlement the Forbes family came to the rich, flood free farm lands of Marshall County. The trip took 5 months by wagon with the family arriving in Hopewell township on 2 Sep 1831. The family acquired government land and prospered in Illinois.
On 8 Apr 1841 Peter married Sarah Buckingham, daughter of Isaac & Sarah (Jones) Buckingham. The Buckinghams came to adjacent Woodford County from Greene County, Pennsylvania in 1832.
Peter and Sarah had 10 children:

Peter died on the evening of 7 Nov 1860 when it is said he heard the local results of the presidential election going to Abraham Lincoln. He had a heart attack and died.
Not yet 42, Peter left a young wife and 8 children.
Peter had worked hard as a stockman and had acquired a lot of land. When he died, Peter left an estate value at over $87,000 for his family. In 2015 dollars this would have been well over a 2 million dollars. His children and grandchildren benefited from his estate.
