David (ap John) was the son of John ap John. He was born in Llanwenog, Cardiganshire, Wales in 1668. No documents or any records have been found in Wales or any where else to prove anything about his immediate family or his early years.

Before leaving Wales and in his early years in Newark, Delaware David was known as David ap John in the Welsh naming tradition. His father was John ap John. All records after 1713 show his name as David Jones.

Other than David's birth information, the first known record about David shows that on 2 May 1683 he attended a Men's church meeting at Llanvarwr parish in Penllyn, Merioneth, Wales.

In 1696 in Wales David married Esther Morgan, the daughter of Morgan ap Rhydderch.

Many of the family were active church members, deacons & ministers. They suffered persecution by the king's officers. This and the desire to freely pursue their religious beliefs is what causes the Jones & Morgan family to leave Wales and come to America.

David & Esther came to the Welsh Tract in 1710 as part of a church group from Wales. The leader of this group was Rev. John Griffith. The Reverend was his wife Esther's step-father.

David & Esther had 9 known children. Most of the children were born in Wales before David & Esther came to the Welsh Tract.

David & Esther's children were:
1. John, b. 1695-1700 d. 1759 SC, m. Ann, 7 ch
2. Daniel, d. aft Apr 1751
3. Rachel, d. aft 1748, m. Richard Williams
4. Unk dau,
5. Morgan, 1697-1760 DE, m. Eleanor Evans, 9 ch
6. James, 1707-1786 DE, m. Susannah Williams, 10 ch

8. David, 1716-1758 DE, never married
9. Jane. 1717-1761 DE, m. John Passmore
