Rock Musician. Founding member, lead singer and bassist of the music group The Grass Roots. Born Robert Frank Grill, he attended Hollywood High School and upon graduation began his career in the music industry with a position at American Recording Studios. Grill decided to form his own band and under the guidance of producer Steve Barri, The Grass Roots joined The West Coast's elite groups of the period including The Mamas & the Papas, Buffalo Springfield and The Byrds. While with the Dunhill label, they scored six Top-Ten hits among them "Let's Live For Today" (1967), "Midnight Confessions" (1968, achieving gold record status), "I'll Wait a Million Years" (1969), "Temptation Eyes" (1971) and "Sooner or Later" (1971). In 1979 Grill began a solo career however, during the 1980s an increased interest in nostalgic bands of the 1960s would draw him back to performing with the group which helped him claim his mark in music history. He died of complications from a fall at his home.
