Ned D. Becenti, 81, died at home on Friday, October 11, 2002. He was an uncomplicated man, a Christian, and proud of his service to his country.
He was born on March 4, 1921 in the Crownpoint area of New Mexico. His parents were Dave and Lizzie Becenti. He had four brothers; Robert, Harry, Ernest, and Sampson, and three sisters; Sadie, Annie and Ailene. He is survived by his wife Edith, their sons Lucas, Michael, and Roberson, and their daughter, Nadine.
Ned served proudly in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He enlisted on September 15, 1942 and served in the Pacific Area. He fought in the following campaigns: The consolidation of the Northern Solomons, at New Georgia Group from October 1943 to December 1943; Bougainville, British Solomon Islands from December 1943 through January 1944; and as part of the initial attack group of the 5th Marine Division, at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands from February 19, 1945 to March 27, 1945. He later served as part of the occupation of Japan by the United States from September 1945 to October 1945. He was honorably discharge on December 6, 1945.
A viewing of the body will be held at Direct Funeral Services on Monday, October 14th from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 15th at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper NE at 12:00 noon with Larry E. Willis officiating, followed by internment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30pm. Arrangement by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 Fourth Street NW. (505)343-8008.
