BALTIMORE CITY POLICE OFFICER
SHOT AND KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

On April 18, 1968 Detective Bosak received a tip that a recent escapee from the City Jail was going to meet a friend at the Golden Glow Restaurant in the unit block of N. Eutaw Street. Det. Bosak and another officer secreted themselves in the kitchen of the restaurant to wait for the two men. The suspect entered the establishment armed with the same pistol that he used to shoot his way to freedom the previous Wednesday. The officers recognized the suspects and approached them. The suspects began to flee. Det. Bosak chased and caught up to the escapee tackling him and wrestling him to the floor. During the struggle a gunshot rang out and Det. Bosak slumped to the floor mortally wounded. He then ripped Det. Bosak's pistol from it's holster and ran out of the building with Det. Bosak's partner in pursuit. The detective cornered the suspect and rather than be apprehended, the suspect raised his pistol to his head and took his own life. Det. Bosak had 16 years of service with the department. He was awarded the department's Medal of Honor posthumously
