Off. Malinofski was checking businesses on the midnight shift near Maine Ave. & Gwynn Oak Avenue. As he was checking businesses he came upon a man trying to pry open a rear door to one of them. The man spun around and fired two shots striking the officer. A milkman making deliveries nearby was drawn to the gunfire and discovered Off. Malinofski laying near the curb. He died from his wounds shortly thereafter. Off. Malinofski had 9 years of service with the police department and was survived by his wife Gladys.
