On September 24, 1924, in Calumet, Michigan, Peter married Christine Stanfel, also the child of Slovenian immigrants. She had lived just up the street from him all of their lives. Together, Peter and Christine had two sons, Ralph and Ernest ("Ernie").

Peter died at only sixty years of age due to cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Anna.

He was the grandfather of Brian Gasperich and many others who still live.
