Gregory Young was a City Police Officer in Chicago, Illinois. He served 10 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 41. Officer Young was seated in his car when he was approached by two assailants who attempted to rob him. He identified himself as a police officer and then was engaged in a gunfight. He was able to wound one of his attackers before being fatally wounded. The second gunman was later taken into custody. Officer Young's killer was sentenced to death, but later it was commuted to life in prison. Officer Young was survived by his wife, daughter, son, parents, four sisters and three brothers. His daughter followed in his footsteps and became a City Police Officer for the Chicago Police Department.
