Chicago Police Officer David Blake, 45.

Blake grew up in the Beverly neighborhood and was a 15-year veteran of the force. He joined the Chicago Police Department in August of 1995. He was assigned to the S.W.A.T. unit for the past five years. He was off-duty at the time of the shooting.

He began his career in the 3rd District and later worked in the Targeted Response Unit, Public Housing Unit and the 1st District.

He was a highly decorated member of the SWAT team for the last five years. He received 84 awards during the course of his 15-year career. He earned 67 Honorable Mentions, one Department Commendation and many other notable achievements highlighting courageous and distinguished service.

In his personal time, he played as a member of the Chicago Police Enforcers football team; he played fullback and special teams for the last five years.
The Enforcers football team competes with other teams across the country raising money for a number of charities, including for the families of slain officers.
